DELL SP2208WFP

Review of best LCD monitors: Dell SP2208WFP

Dell's LCD monitor offering, the Dell SP2208WFP, is a good combination of high performance with low price. Trying to combine these two goals is quite difficult, but this is one of the best LCD monitors that may have pulled it off.

The Dell SP2208 WFP won't win any awards in design. The LCD monitor has a very simple and clean design. Its height cannot be adjusted nor can it be swiveled. It has a 1680x1050 resolution, and an astoundingly fast pixel-response rate of 2ms. The monitor has the standard VGI port, DVI, and an HDMI connection. Bonus features for the LCD monitor are the 2.0-megapixel webcam on top of the monitor and four USB 2.0 ports.

Where the Dell SP 2208WFP did really well was in its display. Both movies and games looked very vivid and rich on the LCD monitor and there was smooth movement all throughout. In fact, the Dell SP2208WFP is one of the best LCD monitors in the 22-inch category.

The text was rendered quite legibly and the images rendered looked crisp. The glossy screen coating though might not make it suitable for office use.

Overall, the Dell SP 2208WFP is an excellent buy. Even with design issues that do not allow the user to adjust the swivel or height, it is still one of the best LCD monitors because of its highly competitive price.

THE DELL ULTRASHARP

Best LCD lineup: The Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP

The Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP is a 24-inch LCD monitor that is one of the best LCD monitors. It offers good performance, solid design, and many features not found in other LCD monitors. It is great not only for watching movies, but also for usual computer tasks.

The LCD monitor has a resolution of 1920x1200 and has a pixel-response rate of 6ms. The LCD monitor delivered high scores in terms of sharpness and color.

The Dell UltraSharp 2408 rendered fonts very well, and displayed primary colors in a uniform, smooth, and consistent manner. What was problematic was viewing the display in the Preset Mode Cool. The LCD monitor would render the white as light blue instead.

In terms of features, the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP has very many connections and perhaps the best LCD monitor in this respect. There is the standard VGA, two DVI, one HDMI, composite ports and a DisplayComponent for connecting video. In addition, there are four USB ports, a Compact Flash and SD card reader, and a port for speakers. What is lacking is the optical audio out connection which is usually standard for other LCD monitors.

Better LCD monitors exist out there. But at its price point, there are no other 24-inch LCD monitors that are any better, making it easily one of the best LCD monitors at its price.
